Information for authors

While preparing the final, camera-ready version of your submission, please read and adhere carefully to Springer’s Author Guidelines, which can be downloaded in PDF form here:
http://tinyurl.com/lncs-guidelines

Furthermore, please pay special attention to Springer’s requirements for:

  • the width of all page margins
    • check the margins in the Author Guidelines PDF for an example
  • the amount of vertical whitespace between elements of content
    • i.e., negative \vspace in LaTeX is disallowed
  • the formatting and amount of detail included in each citation in your references section
    • see Section 2.8 of the Author Guidelines PDF for detailed information

Also please do note that the page limits are inclusive of the references section.

For authors using LaTeX, the easiest way to comply with Springer’s guidelines is to download and use the LaTeX2e template from the following URL (llncs2e.zip):
http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0

For authors using Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows (or later), the easiest way to comply with Springer’s guidelines is to:

  1. Download the “Office 2007 Word” template from the following URL (splnproc1110.zip):
    http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0
  2. After extracting the downloaded archive, copy the Word template file (splnproc1110.dotm) into the folder where you wish to create the camera-ready copy of your paper.
  3. Create a new Word document by right clicking on the Word template file and choosing “New”.
    • If a security warning appears concerning macros, click the appropriate button to enable macros (Springer’s template relies on macros).
  4. Save the new Word document into the folder that you copied the Word template file into.
  5. Carefully read and follow the instructions in the PDF file called “SPLNPROC Word 2007-2010 Technical Instructions” that was included in the downloaded archive.

For authors using Microsoft Word 2007 for Mac (or later), note that unfortunately the Springer template does not seem to work. You can download a sample document containing the correct formatting here.

Consent to publish

When submitting your final version of your paper, make sure you include the signed copyright form. As you are filling out the copyright form, please do take note that only authors actually employed by the EU (as an institution) should tick the “I’m an employee of the EU…” box on the second page. A common mistake is for authors to think that if they work in a country in the European Union, they have to tick that box, which isn't true. Similarly, the box for US Government employees should only be ticked by US Government employees.

The form with ICIDS 2014 details pre-filled can be found here:

Uploading your final paper

In the earlier email notification that you received, telling you that your paper was accepted, there should have been a link at the bottom of the page, together with the text "Please upload the final version of the document until Aug 18, 2014 HST.” If you click on that link, you should see a page with your paper details and reports. If you scroll to the end of the page, you should see something similar to this:

You should also be able to get to this screen by going into the Springer OCS system and clicking on your paper. You should then be able to select the final .pdf version of the paper, plus the copyright form and the source archive, and then click on “Upload” to upload the documents.

If you don’t see those options, go to the 4 icons at the bottom of the page, and mouse-over the “+” icon. You’ll see a “final upload” icon:

Clicking on this should take you to a page that contains the options to upload, as shown in the above screenshot. From there you can upload the final paper and supporting files.
